MENDON- Augusta V. (Principessa) LaBastie, 93, of Mendon, died Saturday July 9, 2011 in the Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford. She was the wife of the late Austin A. LaBastie who died in 2003.
Mrs. LaBastie was employed as an LPN for 25 years at the former Milford Medical Home, presently known as Countryside Healthcare of Milford.
She was born Jan. 26, 1918 in Dedham, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Basilici) Principessa and was a graduate of the former Pondville Hospital Nursing School in Norfolk.
Mrs. LaBastie was a longtime member of St. Michaels Church in Mendon and she enjoyed stitching, knitting and crocheting. She was a former Den Mother for Cub Scout troop #1 in Mendon, a Girl Scout Leader in Mendon, and served on the PTA for the former Center School in Mendon. She enjoyed bowling, where she was a league member in Milford, and bocci where she was a member of the North Uxbridge Italian Club in Uxbridge.
She is survived by two sons; Philip A. and his wife Madeline LaBastie and Daniel P. and his wife Linda LaBastie, all of Mendon, one daughter Patricia A. and her husband Richard Victor of Mendon, one brother Joseph Principessa of Florida, one brother-in-law Henry LaBastie of Bellingham, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, 4 sisters and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 16, 2011 at 9 AM from the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10 AM in St. Michaels Church, North Ave., Mendon 01756.
Interment will follow in Swan Dale Cemetery, Hartford Ave. East, Mendon.
Visiting hours will be Friday July 15, 2011 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice.
