WOONSOCKET- Doris Chapdelaine, 102, of Social St., died Monday, August 1, 2011 in Overlook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pascoag.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Louisa (Savageau) Chapdelaine.
Doris attended her first two years of high school in Canada and returned to Woonsocket to graduate from the former St. Claire High School. She continued her studies at various schools including, Brown, taking courses to round out her education.
Miss Chapdelaine was the Head Librarian for the Woonsocket Public Library for forty-seven years, and after her retirement, the Board of Trustees named the library's west wing reading area in her honor. A communicant of All Saints Parish, she was a member of many local organizations, including the Woonsocket Historical and Preservation Society, the Garden Club, the Woonsocket Business and Professional Women's Club and the Quota Club for sixty years where she once served as secretary.
She is survived by five nephews, Edward Chmiel of West Melbourne, FL, Roland Chapdelaine of Woonsocket, Edgar Chapdelaine of No.Smithfield, Robert Soucy of Blackstone, MA and Wallace Guay of Seekonk, MA and a niece, Adrianne Bibeault of Woonsocket. She was the sister of the late Andre and Rolland Chapdelaine, Estelle Guay, Dorothy Soucy, Ella Touzin, Bella Chmiel-Auger and Sr. Simonne Chapdelaine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10 AM in All Saints Community Church, 323 Rathbun St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Blvd., E. Providence, RI 02914.
