WOONSOCKET- Claire L. (Fortin) Durand, 78, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at St. Antoine Residence with family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Edgar J. Durand.
Born in Woonsocket on December 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Arthur C. and Laurette J. (Tetreault) Fortin.
She was the loving mother of Marc G. Durand of Mapleville, RI, Paul N. Durand and his wife Barbara of Woonsocket, RI, Gerard R. Durand and his wife Christina of Cumberland, RI, Jacqueline D. Durand of Woonsocket, RI, Louise P. Durand of Attleboro, MA and the late Elaine Y. Durand. She leaves her cherished six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Gloria B. Renner of Warwick, RI and the late Charles, Normand, Rene, Marcel and Reverend Roger Fortin.
A lifelong resident of Woonsocket, and employed as a claims examiner for the State of Rhode Island Department of Employment & Training for over 20 years until retiring. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and was very active in the church, having taught CCD, Summer Bible School, was a Eucharist Minister and attended church daily for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was adored, and will be sadly missed by all.
Funeral will be held on Monday, August 8, at 9:00AM from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at Holy Family Church, 414 So. Main St., Woonsocket. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
Visiting hours are on Sunday, August 7, from 5 to 8PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
