BLACKSTONE- Roger R. Martel, 73, of Blackstone, MA passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Kindred Hospital in Rochdale, MA with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude A. (Perusse) Martel.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on March 18, 1938, he was the son of the late Paul and Alice (Demers) Martel.
He was the loving father of David R. Martel and his wife Tracey of Pascoag, RI, Donna M. Bartels and her companion William G. Gilroy of Uxbridge, MA, Doreen T. Gill and her husband Kevin of Blackstone, MA; and his cherished eight grandchildren, Meghan and Mackenzie Gill, Kaley Zajas, Kolby Bartels, Zachary, Adam, Jillian and Tanya Martel. He was the brother of Aline Pimental of Woonsocket, RI and the late Paul Martel and Claire Giguere.
He was a resident of Blackstone for 43 years formerly of Woonsocket where he was raised, and was a communicant of St. Theresa Church. Roger was worked in maintenance at Worcester Academy for over 15 years until retiring in 2007. He was a carpenter for many years and was an avid hunter, fisherman, sportsman and enjoyed playing cards. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, August 13th at 9:00AM from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Theresa Church, 630 Rathbun St., Blackstone, MA. Interment will follow at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham.
