SOUTHBRIDGE- Richard T. McNamara, 88, of Highland St., died Sunday, Aug.14th, in the St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Lorraine L. (Cantara) McNamara; three sons, Richard T. McNamara, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Colchester, VT, Brian P. McNamara and his wife Marina of Crownsville, MD and John A. McNamara and his wife Malina of Washington, CT; 9 grandchildren, Randall McNamara, Scott McNamara, Elena Ketnouvong, Michael McNamara, Julianne McNamara, Rocco McNamara, Katherine McNamara, Mimi McNamara and Jess-Ellen McNamara; 3 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward McNamara.
He was born in Dudley the son of John T. and Eva C. (Brunelle) McNamara. He was a 1941 graduate of the former Mary E. Wells High School in Southbridge. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II serving from 1943 to 1946.
Dick owned and operated Pascoag Auto Parts in Pascoag, RI and Valley Auto Parts in Smithfield, RI from 1959 to his retirement in 1996. He previously worked for Bousquet Auto Parts in Southbridge. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion both of Southbridge. He was a member of the Southbridge Lions Club for 41 years. He was a former coach for the Babe Ruth League in Southbridge and in his younger years played baseball for the Favreau Chefs in Southbridge. He enjoyed traveling and hosting outdoor barbeques.
His funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Aug. 19th at 10:00am in Notre Dame Church of the Blessed John Paul II Parish, 446 Main St., Southbridge. Burial will follow in the New Notre Dame Cemetery, Southbridge. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southbridge Lions Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 622, Southbridge, MA 01550.
