Ex-employee charged with embezzling

August 24, 2011

WOONSOCKET — A former employee of a prominent businesswoman has been charged with pilfering nearly $35,000 from the personal accounts of the 82-year-old Slatersville resident.
Danny Michael Jordan, 34, was arrested on a warrant Wednesday charging him with one count each of felony larceny and forgery.
Police reports say he fraudulently drained $34,848 from the personal business accounts of Elaine DiPardo, former owner of the Egidio DiPardo & Sons Funeral Home.
In a complaint filed on Aug. 8, DiPardo said she discovered unauthorized transactions on bank statements spanning a period of roughly two years.
DiPardo owned the Harris Avenue funeral parlor for many years, but family members say she sold it in 2008 and that the funds in question were related to other business interests that DiPardo maintains.
Jordan was an employee of DiPardo's during the period she owned the funeral home.
The funeral parlor still operates under the DiPardo banner, but it is owned by Brown Funeral Homes Inc., which includes the Brown Funeral Home in Burrillville and the Brown-Keene Funeral Home in North Smithfield.
A spokesman for the company said Jordan had continued to work for the Brown group for some time after the sale, but he had recently been terminated. He referred questions to the owner, Robert Brown, who couldn't be reached.
Despite the change in ownership, police reports say DiPardo told investigators Jordan continued to have access to all her financial information, residential mailbox and a post office box where her bank statements were sent. DiPardo obtained copies of statements dating back to December 2009 from which she discovered funds had been fraudulently taken from her accounts.
DiPardo said her signature on documents authorizing the withdrawals had been forged.
