NORTH SMITHFIELD- Hebert (Herb) Girard, 80, of Bamford St., died August 26, 2011, in Hopkins Manor. He was the husband of Shirley (Godin) Girard for 52 years.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Ferdinand J. and Noella (Hebert) Girard.
Mr. Girard was a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard.
Mr. Girard was Owner and operator of Blackstone Dye & Girard Knitting Mills, and also was a sale representative for Schwan's Food Co.
He was a former member of the Lions, and served as State Secretary of the Lions. Kiwanis, Jaycee's, Knights of Columbus.
He was an avid golfer, and was member of the Melody Hill Senior golf league. Herb was also an avid PC Friars Fan.
Herb enjoyed spending time with his family and grand-dogs Maggie, and Lacey, and also gardening.
Besides his wife he is survived by four children, Hebert Girard Jr., of Bellingham, Ma. Michael Girard, of Cumberland, Christine Girard of Woonsocket, Christopher and wife Elyssa Girard, of Johnston, R.I.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at 10 A.M. from the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Rd., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will be in Precious Blood Cemetery, Rathbun St., Woonsocket. Relatives and friends are invited; calling hours are Wednesday morning from 9-10 A.M.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Hopkins Manor, 610 Smithfield Rd., North Providence 02904, in his memory would be appreciated.
