Clippers' Sutcliffe wins Injury Fund race

BURRILLVILLE – Chariho Regional senior Mike Marsella registered the fastest time of the day on Saturday at the annual Injury Fund Cross-Country Carnival, held at Burrillville Middle School.
Marsella covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 15 minutes, 25.96 seconds to win the Platt III race, one of four boys’ races.
Cumberland senior Matt Sutcliffe copped the Lowery Race, running a time of 16:27.07. Junior Trevor Crawley was fifth at 17:04.14. The Clippers, who placed all seven of their runners among the top 20, were edged by five points (42-47) by La Salle Academy for the team title.
In the girls’ races, South Kingstown’s Paige Ethier had the quickest time, winning the Caswell Race with a 19:03 clocking. With its five scoring runners among the top 13, Burrillville captured the Roy Race, defeating the Prout School, 40-54. The Broncos’ Anna Dumais was third overall at 20:52.2.
Cumberland’s Courtney Bricault was fourth in the Hindley Race with a 21:36.34 clocking.
