Chester S. Makowski
MIAMISBURG, OH- Chester S. Makowski, 86, of Miamisburg, OH passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Elmcroft Assisted Living, after battling cancer for the last year.
Chet was born in Hatfield, MA on January 14, 1925 to the late Stella (Kacsinski) and Michael A. Makowski.
In addition to his parents, Chet was preceded in death by his brother, Michael and his wives, Frances Brown (1976) and Doris Gibson Yaindl (2003).
He was a resident of Pascoag, RI for over 35 years.
He is survived by 3 children, Lee (Esther Bullitt) Makowski of Brookline, MA and Lynne (Doug) O'Connell of Miamisburg, OH; a step-daughter, Georgette Yaindl of West Hartford, CT; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by 4 sisters and 3 brothers, Frances Jarosz and Agnes Moroz both of Dudley, MA; Leona Paul of Ocala, FL, Jane Frenette of Harrisville, RI, Roger Makowski of Ocean Pines, MD, Joseph Makowski of Pascoag, RI and John Makowski of South Port, NC.
He served with honor during WWII as an aviation machinist mate on the carrier the USS Steamer Bay as a tail gunner. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for action at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Lingayen Gulf, and Luzon. Chester retired from Raytheon Co., after working as an electronics technician. He relocated to Florida in 1980, most recently residing in the Villages, Hacienda South.
Memorial services will be held at Boucher Funeral Home in Pascoag, RI on Sat. September 24th at 10:00 AM.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living for the love and caring they showed Chester during his time there. Also heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Dayton for their assistance at this very difficult time.
