NORTH SMITHFIELD- Leonard "Lenny" E. Plasse, Jr., 70, a lifelong resident of North Smithfield, died September 18, 2011 at the Summit Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Providence surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 21, 1941 in Woonsocket, RI, a son of the late Leonard, Sr. & Doris (Romprey) Plasse, he was the loving husband of Gladys (Steere) Plasse.
He is survived by his brother, Donald Plasse & his wife Janice of North Smithfield, and his sisters, Priscilla Carollo & her husband Antonio of Pascoag, Madeline Rocheleau & her husband Paul of North Smithfield, and Nancy Ayotte & her husband Charles of Norfolk, MA. He leaves two stepchildren, Jennifer Cendowski of Colorado and James T. Darby of Woonsocket and two granddaughters, Alyssa and Caitlynn, both of Colorado. He was also a loving uncle to 11 nieces & nephews and 23 great nieces & nephews.
Lenny was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Commissioned Police Officers Association, serving with the North Smithfield Department for 31 years, retiring as a sergeant in 1996. He owned & operated Len's Exxon Gas Station of North Smithfield and Len's Auto Repair on Transit Street in Woonsocket. Most recently he worked with Twin Rivers Security Department for the last 14 years. Lenny was an avid race car driver & owner of Lens Racing Team competing throughout New England. He was also an active golfer and a member of the Inner Club at the Country View Golf Club in Burrillville.
His funeral will be held Friday at 9am from the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Road, North Smithfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint John's Church, Slatersville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to the Summit Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Residents Activity Fund (99 Hillside Avenue, Providence, RI 02906) or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
(, National Headquarters, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266). Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4pm until 8pm.
