WOONSOCKET- Thomas J. Kirby, Jr., of Woonsocket, died Saturday, October 1, 2011 in Woonsocket Health & Rehabilitation Centre. He was the beloved husband of Jeannette "Jan" (Grenon) Kirby for fifty-seven years.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Thomas and Anna (Owens) Kirby, Sr.
Mr. Kirby was a Partner and Sales Manager for J&R Auto Body Supply, Framingham, MA, retiring in 1998. Thomas was a Eucharistic Minister and Parish Council member of St. Charles Church, Woonsocket. He also was an avid golfer and tennis player and former member of Franklin Country Club, Winnesucket Country Club, Bellingham, Fore Court Tennis Club and Abbott Valley Racket Club, both in Cumberland.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Bill Kirby and his wife Connie and two grandsons, Brian and Kevin Kirby, all of Salem, MA. He is also survived by a sister, Rita (Prendergast) Jalette and her husband Henry of Gaithersburg, MD. He was the brother of the late Mary Kennedy and Agnes Szczengor.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 9AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Charles Church, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone, MA. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or St. Charles Church, 190 No. Main St., Woonsocket, RI 02895.
