LINCOLN- John Edward Harrison, 97, of Lower River Road, Lincoln passed away Friday in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Margaret (Gormley) Harrison, they had been married for 67 years.
Born in North Smithfield, he was the son of the late John T. and Selma (Simoneau) Harrison. He resided in Lincoln for the past 50 years, previously residing in North Providence and Burrilville.
Mr. Harrison was employed as a Burner for the General Dynamics Company for many years, retiring in 1980. He was previously employed by the Davol Rubber Company. He was selected as the first Burner to make cuts for the construction of the Nautilus Submarine.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Cumberland. John was an avid sportsman, who often shot trap at the Wallam Lake Rod and Gun Club, Burrillville.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Paul E. Harrison of Lincoln, and David T. Harrison of Rocky Hill, CT; one sister Edith Harrison of North Smithfield, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late John T. Harrison, and brother of the late George Harrison and Selma Giordano.
A celebration of his life will be held WEDNESDAY at 10 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in the Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM.
