PHILADELPHIA, PA- Beatrice (Flashner) Helfand, 95, of Philadelphia, formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Woonsocket, RI, died Monday, October 10, 2011 in Philadelphia surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Her husband of 68 years, Henry Helfand, died in 2003.
Born in Stoughton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Isadore and Anna (Smith) Flashner.
Mrs. Helfand was a woman of elegance and compassion. She was an avid reader, a member of Granny's for Peace and enjoyed trips to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Above all, Mrs. Helfand was devoted to her family who loved her dearly.
Mrs. Helfand leaves her daughter, Lois Licht and her husband Walter of Philadelphia, PA; three grandchildren, Eric Gross and his wife Debbie, Deborah Kantrowitz and her husband, Steven, and Emily Licht and her husband, Harris Feinsod; five great grandchildren, Jeremy and Daniel Gross, and Emma, Noah and Eli Kantrowitz; and several much loved nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Levin, a brother, Ira Flashner and two sisters, Selma Dashef and Helene Macktez.
Her graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 11AM in the B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Mendon Road, Woonsocket. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket and the Chevrah Kaddisha. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation B'Nai Israel, 224 Prospect St., Woonsocket, RI 02895.
