PEORIA, ARIZONA- Rita Blais, 86, of Peoria, Arizona formerly of Pawtucket, RI and Central Falls, RI, passed away on October 8, 2011.
She was born on April 1, 1925 in Woonsocket, RI as one of 11 children to John and Mary (Elias) Joseph, and was married to Joseph O. Blais of Central Falls, RI, who preceded her in death in 1975.
Rita worked as a production seamstress in clothing mills in Pawtucket, RI for much of her life. Subsequent jobs included working in the shipping department of AT Cross in Lincoln, RI and being a cashier at Wal-Mart for more than 10 years in Peoria, AZ. In her early years she was a champion bowler, and she also liked to play cards with family members. She also loved to garden and grow houseplants; she enjoyed cooking and watching cooking and game shows on television; she always had a crossword puzzle book handy, and liked to go to the casinos whenever she had the chance. Rita devoted her life to caring for her two children.
She was survived by her son, Michael Blais of Peoria, AZ and daughter, Karen Blais Wechner of Veneta, OR, as well as her sister, Florence Zajic of Hemingford, NE, along with many nieces and nephews around the country.
Services will be held at L'Heroux and Sons Mortuary in Pawtucket, RI from 1-3PM on Thursday, October 13th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of the Valley and Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care, both of Peoria, AZ.
