BLACKSTONE- Lucille T. (Ferland) Riel, 85, of Blackstone, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at The Friendly Home in Woonsocket, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Emile G. Riel.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on November 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Narcisse and Delia (Phaneuf) Ferland.
She was the loving mother of Emile W. Riel and his wife Kathy of Haines City, FL, Paul E. Riel and his wife Renee of Blackstone, MA, Diane A. Warren and her husband William of Blackstone, MA, Louise I. Carpenter and her husband Charles of Marlborough, MA, and the late Claudette S. Cousineau. She leaves her cherished 13 grandchildren, her late granddaughter Jennifer Cousineau, and 21 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Joseph Ferland of Pascoag, RI and the late Gabriel, Emile, Armand. Sylvio, Henry, Roger and Gerard Ferland, Sister Fidele, RJM, Rita Lamoureux and Delores Beaulsoleil.
A longtime resident of Blackstone formerly of Davenport, FL and Woonsocket, she worked for H&R Block in Bellingham for over 20 years until retiring and previously worked as a sewer for Narragansett Knitting for 24 years. Mrs. Riel was Past Treasurer for over 16 years and Lifetime member of the F.O.P.A. Lodge 24 Rhode Island State Sheriffs, and a member of the Ladies of St. Ann of St. Theresa Church, Blackstone. She loved sewing, doing crafts, collecting Barbie Dolls, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Devoted to her family, she will be greatly missed.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 18, at 9:00AM from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at Holy Family Church, 414 So. Main St., Woonsocket, RI. Interment will follow at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are on Monday, October 17, from 4 to 7PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. To sign guest book visit
