CUMBERLAND- Donald W. Mayer 83, resident of Cumberland, died November 4, 2011 at the Landmark Medical Center. He was the loving husband of 62 years to Theresa (Picard) Mayer.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son to the late Arthur Sr. & Beatrice (St. Amant) Mayer.
Donald worked for the former First National Stores for 19 years then in Radio & Television Sales & Service opening his own business as Mayer's TV in Cumberland and Woonsocket in 1971. He lived in North Smithfield and Woonsocket moving to Cumberland in 1959. He was an army veteran of the Korean War being awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, US Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal receiving three Bronze Battle Stars. He was a charter member of the VFW Post #11519 of Woonsocket.
Besides his wife he is survived by his two daughters, Sheila Martin of Cumberland and Beverly Therrien of Assonet MA, two sons, Jeffrey and Scott Mayer both of Cumberland, ten grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brother, Arthur Mayer of Woonsocket, and a sister, Dolores Maher of Vernon CT. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Kaylee Therrien and a brother Roland Mayer.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30am from the Egidio DiPardo & Sons Funeral Home 75 Harris Ave. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. John Vianney Church, in Cumberland. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery will be held privately. Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral from 8:30am until 10:30am.
