NO.SMITHFIELD- Richard J. Beauchemin, Sr. 85, of Gilfillan Rd. and Bonnet Shores, Narragansett died Monday, November 7, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Diana (Frankian) Beauchemin whom he married November 29, 1952.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Alcee H. and Hilda (Lavallee) Beauchemin and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Beauchemin was the owner of the Beauchemin Lumber building materials firm, which was founded by his father in 1949. He was a graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy, where he played hockey and was a 1951 graduate of Providence College. A WWII Marine Corporal Veteran, he served in the Third Division in the Pacific Theater on Guam and Iwo Jima and also participated in the Occupation of China. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 850 and member of the American Legion Fairmount Post 85.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Anne Poirier of No. Smithfield, Richard Beauchemin Jr. of Burrillville, Stephen and Edward Beauchemin, both of No. Smithfield, John Beauchemin of San Francisco, CA, thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rita Begin and Lorraine Barrette and his brothers, Raymond, Robert, Louis and Roland Beauchemin. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral will be held Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 - 6:30. Kindly omit flowers.
