GALES FERRY CT- Irene J. (Costa) VanHouwe, 87, of Gales Ferry CT, previously of RI & FL passed away Thursday, November 10th at L&M Hospital in New London, CT.
Born in North Smithfield, RI she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Georgiana (Ticherio) Costa.
She retired in 1986 from the Desmond Mill Co. after 44 years of faithful service.
Irene was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxillary in North Smithfield.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Bishop and her husband, Skip, of Gales Ferry; sister, Olida Grenier of North Smithfield; six grandchildren, Jill Golden of Smithfield, Angela Ireland of Burrillville, Sheila McNair of CA, Brian and Kevin Bishop of Woonsocket, and AJ Bishop of Gales Ferry; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church North Smithfield at a future date.
