McGair: PC Friars to honor '97 Elite Eight men's hoops squad

Providence College Athletics, Cox Sports and Coast to Coast Promotional Products To Host 15th Anniversary Celebration Of The 1997 Elite Eight Men’s Basketball Team

The celebration will take place on May 12, 2012.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College Athletics, along with presenting sponsors Cox Sports and Coast to Coast Promotional Products, are pleased to announce that on May 12, 2012, they will hold a 15-year anniversary celebration of the 1997 Elite Eight men’s basketball team.
This special team took us on a magical ride, coming within seconds of a return to the Final Four. This celebration will allow Friar fans to relive the memories and moments from that exciting season.
Please join current Head Coach Ed Cooley, former head men’s basketball coach Pete Gillen, along with members of his staff and former Friar greats Austin Croshere, God Shammgod, Jamel Thomas, Derrick Brown, Ruben Garces and Corey Wright and many more.
“The 1996-97 Providence College basketball team was very talented,” Coach Gillen said. “We came within a eye lash of reaching the Final Four and had the opportunity to win it all. Providence College is a special place and we all look forward to coming back and celebrating this great anniversary.”
