"Pep" Berard, Jr.

WOONSOCKET- Alfred Geremy "Pep" Berard, Jr, age 60, of Woonsocket, RI passed away Friday, Nov.18, 2011 at St. Antoine Residence, No. Smithfield, RI.
He was born Friday, March 30, 1951 in Woonsocket, son of the late Alfred Geremy and Lillian (LaRouche) Berard Sr.
"Pep" was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket, who enjoyed life. He was a compassionate, gentle man who would do anything for you, even to go as far as to give you the shirt off of his back. His biggest joy was his family. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren more than words could say. "Pep" was a hard worker, who devoted everyday to help provide support for individuals who had special needs.
In 1969, "Pep" had joined the United States Army, and proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He had stayed enlisted with the Army until 1973. Shortly after coming out of the service, "Pep" had welcomed his beautiful daughter Stacy into this world in 1974.
On November 19, 1977, "Pep" had married the woman of his dreams, Valerie (Cassidy), and together they had Derick and Christopher.
In 2002, "Pep" had started to work for Horace Mann Educational Associates (HMEA) in Franklin, Massachusetts, doing what he loved to do best- helping others. Prior to working for HMEA, "Pep" had also worked for Arc Northern Rhode Island for 13 years.
Aside from dedicating his life to his family and to helping those in need, "Pep" had made sure to take some time for him. He was an avid reader who appreciated the value of a book. He was always thirsty for knowledge and wasn't afraid to show off his smarts. If you thought you were good at answering the questions from Jeopardy, go head to head with "Pep". He would make sure to put you in your place.
When "Pep" wasn't busy showcasing his wisdom, you could always find him in his favorite place, Scarborough Beach. He would spend countless hours there, just sitting by the ocean, listening to the waves crash along the surf.
"Pep" is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Valerie; daughter Stacy D. (Russo) and her husband Mario Nasisi of Johnston; son Christopher R. and his wife (Crystal Morin) Berard of Woonsocket; 7 grandsons- DJ, Mariano, Santino and Salvatore Nasisi and Tyler, Connor and Liam Berard; 2 brothers- Raymond (Elaine) Berard of Johnston and Marc (Mim) Berard of Wakefield; 2 sisters- Lucille (Harold) Lefebvre of Woonsocket and Connie (Paul) Cote of Smithfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.
"Pep" was preceded in death by a son Derick R. Berard in 2002.
