Friars limping along against Southern after one half

November 22, 2011

PROVIDENCE – Providence is up 30-21 after one half based in large part to attempting 26 free throws. By comparison, PC’s opponent, Southern (La.) University, went to the line two times.
The only reason why the Jaguars, picked to finish last in the SWAC, went to the charity stripe was when PC freshman Brice Kofane was called for a questionable intentional foul. Otherwise it was Southern that felt the wrath of the officials as the visiting Jaguars were called for 15 fouls.
PC came out of the gates ice cold, hitting just one of its nine first shots. The game was tied at 15 with 7:47 remaining before the Friars ended the half on a 15-6 run. Gerard Coleman leads the Friars with eight points. Bryce Cotton, the team’s leading scorer the past two games, has four points, all coming at the foul line.
The Friars shots 5-of-26 from the floor.
