MELBOURNE, FL- Fernel M. Pinocci, 100, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Life Care Center of Melbourne.
Born in Springfield, MA, May 2, 1911, a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Bessie Grissim Koger.
She married Joseph A. Pinocci, Sr. in 1937, they were together for 48 years until his death in 1984.
Fern and Joe raised their three children, Joseph, Jr., Richard and Fernel (Dolly) in North Smithfield, RI. She enjoyed working in the public and loved her years in sales at Bay State Fur. For over 60 years, she was an active member of Buttonwoods Campers Association, Warwick, RI. In 1977, Fern & Joe became "snow birds" spending winters in Melbourne and summers in Buttonwoods. She was a 33 year member of Trailer Haven Shuffleboard Club. Fern lived life to the fullest and loved to entertain. She performed for several organizations as "George Burns". In 1995, Cheryl Wheeler wrote "Mrs. Pinocci's Guitar", a song inspired by a night spent singing and playing her guitar.
Fern was an inspiration to many, especially her family: Joseph Pinocci and Jennifer Roberts, Richard and Susan Pinocci, Dolly and Edwin Sullivan. Her jokes, positive attitude and strong faith will be missed by her grandchildren: Joseph Pinocci, III, Kimberly Tarbox, Kristin Kohn, Kathryn Buehler, Scott Pinocci and Katie King and her great grandchildren Lindsey, Samantha, and Jaime Tarbox, Eddie and William Buehler, Chloe and Lily Pinocci, Audriana Pinocci and Collin and Camden King will miss their Grandma HaHa's love of life.
Private burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, W Greenwich, RI with a Celebration of her Life at a later date. Special thanks to Dr. Naveen Kumar, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and the staff at Life Care Center. Their care enabled her to enjoy and reach her goal of being 100 years old. Arrangements are by Fountainhead Funeral Home in Palm Bay, FL.
