DOUGLAS- Thomas J. "Louie" Furno, 81, of Riddlebrook Apts., formerly of Depot St. died Fri. Dec. 16 after an illness. His beloved wife of 51 years Clarassia (Farrar) Furno died May 10, 2011.
He is survived by a son Steven B. and his wife Karin Furno of Millville; 2 daughters Joan R. and her husband Gary Bolen of Douglas and Angela F. and her husband Jim Hamilton of Worcester; 5 grandchildren Jeffrey, Katelyn, Lindsay, Jason, and Melissa; 2 sisters Sophie Bombara of Douglas and Lena and her husband Edward Gouin of N Uxbridge; his sister-in-law Shirley Downs and her husband Richard; a brother-in-law John Buster Farrar; several nephews, nieces; and his beloved cat Daisy. He will miss all of his coffee buddies at the Goodness Store and the Picket Fence. Born in Douglas on Jan. 6, 1930, he was the son of Carmine and Frances (Sostanza) Furno and lived here all his life.
Mr. Furno worked as an inspector for Baystate Abrasives in Westboro for 25 years, retiring when he was 65. Previously he worked at Coz Chemical Co. After his retirement he worked at Walmart in the seasonal dept. He was a former member of the Blackstone Valley 4-H, the Douglas Grange, and a Mason with the Mumford River Lodge. He loved to eat, was a fan of NASCAR and baseball, especially the Yankees. Known for his green thumb Louie like to garden, plant, and take quiet walks.
His funeral will be held Wed. Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery on West St. Calling hours at the funeral home in Douglas are Tues. Dec. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wed. Dec. 21 from 9 to 10 a.m. Donations may be made to St. Camillus Activities Fund, 447 Hill St. Whitinsville, MA 01588 or Lydia Taft Rehab Dept. 60 Quaker Highway Uxbridge, MA 01569.
