WOONSOCKET- Rita B. (Plouffe) Mathieu, 88, of Woonsocket, died Friday, December 16, 2011 in Trinity Health & Rehabilitation Center. Her husband of 65 years, Kenneth A. Mathieu, Sr., predeceased her.
Born in North Smithfield, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Menard) Plouffe.
Mrs. Mathieu lived in Woonsocket for many years and later lived in Clearwater, FL for 20 years before returning to Rhode Island in 2005. Mrs. Mathieu was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Slatersville and a former member of Holy Family Church and its Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the RI Club in Clearwater, FL. She enjoyed bowling, crafts and cooking.
She leaves four sons, Kenneth Mathieu, Jr. of Clearwater, FL, David Mathieu of No. Kingstown, RI and Keith and Kevin Mathieu, both of Woonsocket; a sister, Florida Auger of Woonsocket; four grandchildren, Brian Mathieu, Michelle Laflamme and Keith and Sarah Mathieu; two great grandchildren many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two brothers, Roger and Arthur Plouffe and four sisters, Olive Barchiesi, Rose and Jeannette Masse and Florence Archambault.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 10AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Smithfield Rd., No. Smithfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Health and Rehab Center, 4 St. Joseph St., Woonsocket, RI 02895, to benefit their activity fund.
