UXBRIDGE- Mr. Thomas E. "Tim" Creighton, 89, of 71 Douglas St., died Christmas Eve at home peacefully in his sleep. His wife of 54 years Dorothy M. (Depatie) Creighton predeceased him on Nov. 7, 2000.
Tim is survived by three sons, Thomas E. Creighton II of Centerville, MA., Peter E. Creighton of Webster, MA, and William E. Creighton of Uxbridge; two daughters, Mary A. McDowell of Granby, MA., and Cynthia J. Ghidoni of Uxbridge; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.He was brother of the late Joseph R. Creighton Jr., Edward S. Creighton, Charles F. Creighton Sr., and Mary Campopiano.
Born February 1, 1922, in Uxbridge, the son of the late Thomas F. and Briget Creighton, Tim was a lifelong town resident. He attended St. Marys High School in Milford and after entering the Marine Corps in 1942, he fought on three islands during World War II.
Tim was a devoted member of St. Mary's Church, and had owned Creighton's Paint Store in town for almost 30 years before becoming a state representative in 1970. After serving as a selectman for 15 years, on the Finance Committee for 3 years, and as a state representative for 8 years, Tim Creighton spent the last 10 years of his career as a probation officer in the Uxbridge District Court. In 2003, he was named Citizen of the Year and most recently was honored by the U.S. Marine Corps at the VFW Post in Uxbridge. He was a member of the Uxbridge Council Knights of Columbus and the Uxbridge Democratic Town Committee.Tim was truly a public servant who loved his town, his state, and his country.
His funeral will be held Thurs. Dec. 29 from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 71 Mendon St. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Wed. Dec. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Rd. Holyoke, MA 01040.
