NORTH SMITHFILED- Frances A. (Serafin) Melnyk, 89, of No. Smithfield, passed away on Dec. 24th at the home of her daughter, Patricia A. Peters in Rush, CO. She was the loving wife of the late Russell Melnyk.
Born January 28, 1922, in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Martin P. and Anna (Kamfonik) Serafin.
She resided in No. Smithfield most of her life.
Frances was employed as a spinner at the former Bonte Spinning Co. for many years retiring in 1982. She was a communicant and member of the Ladies Sodality at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Woonsocket, she also belonged to the Woonsocket Christian Group and the No. Smithfield Senior Citizens. She loved to listen and dance to Polka music.
Besides her daughter in CO. she is survived by another daughter Linda Ogulewicz of Woodstock, Ct. 10 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Stephen Melnyk, Madeline McSweeney and Judith Bagrowski and sister of the late Bernice, Peter & Edward Serafin, Mary Carter & Helen Malo.
Her funeral will be Saturday at 9:00 A.M. from the Kubaska Funeral Home, 33 Harris Ave., Woonsocket with a Mass of Devine Liturgy at 10:00 A.M. in St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 394 Blackstone St., Woonsocket. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, Blackstone, MA. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation hours are Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers Mass contributions can be made to St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church.
