BULLETIN: Hospital Conversion Application Deemed Complete

January 18, 2012

PROVIDENCE -- The Rhode Island Department of Health and the Department of Attorney General have announced that the Hospital Conversion Application submitted by Steward Health Care and Landmark Medical Center has been deemed complete.
The Department of Health and the AG's office will now start the formal review and evaluation of the application, and have 180 days to complete this step of the process.
The two Departments received the initial application on October 14, 2011. The initial application was deemed incomplete and the applicants’ deadline to submit missing information was January 11, 2012.
“Today’s announcement signals the completion of this phase of the process”, said Director of Health, Michael Fine, MD. “It also highlights the success of a collaborative approach; recognizing the importance of healthcare jobs to the Woonsocket community and the availability of accessible and affordable health services in northern Rhode Island.”

So, Dr. Fine has finally accepted the application? Thanks Doc. Employees and city residents, don't get too far ahead of yourself- this sale will never be approved! The current head of the DOH is a Lifespan Crony and is reporting directly to their Board of Directors. Wanna bet that Steward doesn't get approval, they back out, then Lifespan sweeps in at the last minute to take over Landmark?( for a reduced cost of course!) Then services (such as Cardiac Caths) will be consolidated at Rhode Island Hospital (ALA Miriam) and taken away from city residents. Steward wants to expand services and upgrade the abilities of the Emergency Department, that means less business for Lifespan. Tha will not be allowed. Follow this with me and see how right I am..
