January 21, 2012

The Cumberland High hockey team battled the St. Raphael Academy/Providence Country Day/Wheeler School co-op team to a 3-3 draw on Friday night at Adelard Arena. The Clippers are now 9-1-1.

WOONSOCKET --- Michael Kinch’s 17th goal of the season, a power-play score with 3:48 to play in the game, helped the Cumberland High hockey team battle the St. Raphael Academy/Providence Country Day/Wheeler co-op team to a 3-3 tie on Friday night in their Division II-North affair at Adelard Arena.
Brendan Kelahan’s goal off a pass from Mark Long with 5:21 left in the game actually gave the co-op team a 3-2 lead before Kinch struck for the equalizer.
The Clippers, who are 9-1-1 and sit in first place, received a goal and two assists from Andrew Dulac and their other goal from Matt Rzemien 5:50 into the game.
Long and John Geller scored goal 24 seconds apart from each other late in the opening period to give SRA/PCD/Wheeler (5-4-2) a 2-1 lead after one period of play. Long also had two assists in the game.
Both goaltenders had superb games, as Pat Noke stopped 51 shots for the Clippers and Max Lemay had 40 saves for the co-op team.
Both teams are back in action and on the road tonight. SRA/PCD/Wheeler visits North Smithfield in a 7 p.m. game at the Rhode Island Sports Center, and Cumberland battles Pilgrim in a 9 p.m. contest at Thayer Arena.
