William Leo Thibodeau
TOPSFIELD- Mr. William Leo Thibodeau, 83, son of the late Leo and Margaret (Donnelly) Thibodeau of North Smithfield, Rhode Island. He was married to Patricia Greene, formerly of Woonsocket, Rhode Island for 57 years.
He was educated at St. Paul School in Blackstone, MA and La Salle Academy in Providence, Rhode Island, Class of 1946. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, Rhode Island in 1957.
He was in the Air National Guard from 1949 until he was placed on active duty in 1953. After completing weather forecasting school at Chanute Air Force Base, in Rantoul, IL, he was assigned to Mitchell Air Force Base in Hempstead, Long Island, NY. A few months later, he was reassigned to Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL to attend high altitude weather forecasting school. From there, he was assigned to Grenier Air Force Base in Manchester, New Hampshire. Discharged in 1956, he entered the University of Rhode Island to complete his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1957.
He had been employed by the Raytheon Company for 33 years, a good portion of which was devoted to the design and production of the Patriot Missile. He was awarded a patent for High Frequency Interconnections.
In addition to his wife, William is survived by five children, Barbara Thibodeau of Topsfield, MA, Margaret Russo of Topsfield, William J. Thibodeau of Wilmington, NC, Patricia Doyle of Needham, MA and Jane MacArthur of Winchester, MA. He also leaves eleven grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral Mass will be held in St. Rose of Lima Church, Park St., Topsfield, MA, Tuesday, January 24, at 10:30 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial service will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Blackstone, MA at a later date.
