NORTH SMITHFIELD- Sandra Lois DeCherry, 50, of Mowry Avenue, North Smithfield, Rhode Island died on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice in Providence, Rhode Island following an illness that began in October.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica on February 5, 1961, she was a daughter of Daphne M. Watson of Tavares, Florida.
She immigrated to the United States in 1983 and resided in Franklin prior to moving to North Smithfield in February 2002.
Ms. DeCherry attended Horace Mann Educational Associates day service programs and was employed through the agency as an assembly worker.
She enjoyed traveling to Florida, New York City, Washington, D.C. and especially visiting Disney World.
She had a lifelong love for being at the oceanside and enjoying the sand and water along the beach.
Aquariums were among her favorite places to visit having enjoyed the Boston Aquarium, Mystic Seaport Aquarium and Sea World in Florida.
She enjoyed listening to music and dancing.
An affectionate and caring woman, she treasured the time spent with small children and had a love for dogs.
In addition to her mother, she leaves a brother: Barrington Hill of Dubai; her devoted "adopted family" with whom she made her home: Steven S. and Susan G. (Clark) Crane and family of North Smithfield, Rhode Island and several extended family members including aunts, uncles and cousins in Connecticut, New York, Jamaica and England and many friends and colleagues.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation in Celebration of Her Life on Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
A Funeral Service will be held immediately at the conclusion of visitation on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Jewel Hardmon, Pastor of the Fruit of the Spirit Mission Church, Attleboro, officiating.
Burial will be private.
Following services an invitation will be extended to join family and friends for a time of continued fellowship, refreshments and continued sharing of memories at a location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ms. DeCherry's name may be made to Horace Mann Educational Associates, 8 Forge Park East, Franklin, MA 02038.
