WEB ONLY: Mount hands Hendricken first loss

The four-time defending state champion Mount St. Charles hockey team knocked Bishop Hendricken from the unbeaten ranks on Friday night with a 4-1 victory.

Mount St. Charles knocked Bishop Hendricken from the unbeaten ranks on Friday night by skating to an impressive 4-1 win in their Division I contest at Thayer Arena.
Junior center Brian Belisle scored a pair of unassisted goals late in the third period for the Mounties, who improved to 6-4 and dropped the Hawks to 10-1-1.
The Mounties took a 2-0 lead on Ryan Berard’s goal 6:55 into the game and Callan Morisseau’s goal 1:50 into the second period before the Hawks tied the score midway through that period.
Goalie Brian Larence also had a big game for the Mounties, turning away 22 of the 23 shots he faced.
The Mounties encounter another difficult test tonight at Adelard Arena when they take on second-place La Salle in a 9 p.m. game.

Burrillville defeats Smithfield again
SMITHFIELD --- Burrillville continued its dominance over Division I rival Smithfield on Friday night by skating to a 7-2 triumph over the Sentinels at the Smithfield Ice Rink.
Chad Stone and Evan Lafond had multiple-goal nights for the Broncos, who are 7-4 this season and 3-0 against the Sentinels.
Drew Buxton added a goal and two assists, Glen St. Pierre and Pat Callanan netted the Broncos’ other goals, and Andrew Etheridge also had a pair of assists.
The Broncos outshot the Sentinels (5-7), 39-23.

Cordeiro, North Smithfield down Ponaganset
WEST WARWICK --- Zach Cordeiro netted a pair of first-period goals in the first five minutes of play to help North Smithfield storm out to a 3-0 lead and soar to a 5-3 win over Division II-North rival Ponaganset on Friday night at the West Warwick Civic Center.
The win was the second straight for the Northmen, who opened their season with eight losses. The Chieftains are winless in 12 games.
Maxx Forti, Matt Prudhome, and Tom Bourgeois each contributed a goal and an assist for the winners, and Dylan Naradowy added a pair of assists. Goalie Erik Pelletier also finished with 20 saves.
