Woonsocket's Akinrola named Little East Athlete of the Week

Per the RIC athletic department:

PROVIDENCE —Rhode Island College senior center Mike Akinrola (Woonsocket) was named the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance in two games last week.
Akinrola averaged a double-double of 28.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game to help No. 24 Rhode Island College post a 1-1 mark in Little East action. He was efficient from the floor, shooting at a 65.8 percent (25-for-38) clip, to score at least 20 points in each contest.
Akinrola recorded his second double-double of the season at Western Connecticut on Jan. 24, pouring in a career-high 36 points and puling in a season-best 13 rebounds in a 93-87 loss to the Colonials. Four days later, he produced 21 points and collected seven boards as the Anchormen avenged an earlier loss to No. 18 Eastern Connecticut with a decisive, 66-48, victory.
For the season, he has played in 18 games, starting 17 of them. Akinrola is averaging a team-best 18.6 and 6.6 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 64 percent (141-for-221) from the field.
Head Coach Bob Walsh’s team is currently 15-3 overall and 6-3 (third place tie) in
the Little East. In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Amherst on Tuesday, Jan. 31
(7 p.m.).
