Serial pedophile gets 30 years

February 3, 2012

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A local man was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of raping three children, the attorney general’s office announced.
Ramiro Morales, 39, will also be on probation for 25 years upon his release from prison and is subject to lifetime supervision with a GPS monitoring device under the Jessica Lundsford Act, said Amy Kempe, spokesman for Attorney General Peter Kilmartin.
Morales has been incarcerated since 2009, but his last known address was 25 Lapre Road.
Kempe said all of his victims were under the age of 14, including a relative he was convicted of repeatedly molesting in Cranston between 1997 and 2004.
Morales was initially arrested in December 2008 and released on $20,000 surety bail.
As the investigation continued, authorities learned Morales had been molesting two minors with whom he had been residing. He was arrested again at the Lapre Road home by North Smithfield police in June 2009 and later remanded to the ACI, where he had been held without bail until pleading guilty before Superior Court Judge William C. Clifton on Thursday.
“Ramiro Morales is a child predator who violated the innocence of three young children,” said Attorney General Peter Kilmartin. “His heinous actions after being arrested the first time for molestation are a clear indication of his complete and utter lack of remorse. I applaud the coordinated efforts by police to put Morales behind bars where he can no longer hurt anyone.”
In addition to local police, the Coventry and Cranston police departments and the state police handled the investigation. State prosecutors Feidlim Gill and Special Judith Laliberte prepared the case for the court.
