WEB ONLY: MSC tops Moses Brown; Broncos fall

February 4, 2012

Four-time defending state champion Mount St. Charles scored three times in the first period en route to a 6-3 victory over Moses Brown on Friday night at Adelard Arena.

WOONSOCKET --- Mount St. Charles took charge right from the start of its Division I contest with Moses Brown on Friday night at Adelard Arena and skated away with a 6-3 victory that gave the third-place hosts some breathing room in the power standings.
Now 7-5, the Mounties have 12.6 power points, which is now more than two over fourth-place Burrillville (10.2) and three over fifth-place Moses Brown (9.4), which saw its record fall to 6-6-1.
The Mounties scored the contest’s first goal just eight seconds into play when Ryan Berard lit the lamp, and they took off from there. They scored two more goals in that period, upped their lead to 4-0 just 1:43 into the second period, and outshot the Quakers, 58-21.
Brian Campbell scored twice in the game to lead the Mounties, and Brandon Borges, Callan Morisseau, and Tyler Scroggins added the other goals. Brian Belisle also had three assists and is now second in the division in scoring with 24 points (9 goals, 15 assists).
The Mounties’ next three games are all against public schools, and tonight’s game should be a walk in the park for them, as they bus down to URI’s Boss Arena for a 7 p.m. matchup against one-win North Kingstown.

Hendricken halts Burrillville's seven-game win streak
WARWICK --- Burrillville did its best to down first-place Bishop Hendricken on Friday night, but the Broncos managed just 11 shots in a 4-1 defeat to the Hawks at Thayer Arena that ended their seven-game win streak.
The Hawks, who improved to 11-1-1, only took 29 shots on Burrillville goalie Jacob Toback and owned a 2-0 lead after a period of play by scoring twice in the final 8:45.
Zachary Keach got the Broncos on the board with six minutes to play in the second period by scoring off a pass from Evan Lafond, but Hendricken got its two-goal lead back with 4:22 to play in the period.
The fourth-place Broncos, who are 8-5, have an 8:30 p.m. showdown tonight at Levy Arena against fifth-place Moses Brown (6-6-1) that could play a huge role into which team will play for the four-team ‘Championship Division’ title next month.
