WEB ONLY: N.S. girls win big; MSC beats Bay View

February 4, 2012

North Smithfield coach Bill Nangle saw his team post an impressive 7-1 victory over Smithfield on Friday night at the Smithfield Ice Rink. The Northmen are 3-2-1 in their last six games.

SMITHFIELD -- Twenty-two days away from action did little to slow down North Smithfield on Friday night at the Smithfield Ice Rink.
Hannah Decelles and Courtney Sweeney each scored a pair of goals and Nicole Dumais added three assists to lead the Northmen to a 7-1 victory over winless Smithfield.
The Northmen, who are 4-7-1, but 3-2-1 in their last six games, also received goals from Cara Figuerido, Siobhan Kiernan, and Alexandria Gould, and Decelles also added a pair of assists.
The Northmen have a big game tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Adelard Arena against the first-year South County Storm co-op team, which is made up of players from North Kingstown, Narragansett, and South Kingstown. That's who the Northmen last played, back on Jan. 11 at URI, and N.S. came away with a 4-0 victory.
S.C. is 5-8 and trying to fend off N.S. for eighth place and the final spot in the playoffs.

Mount hikes win streak to 10 games
SMITHFIELD -- Mount St. Charles improved its win streak to 10 games on Friday night by skating to a 4-1 triumph over longtime rival Bay View at the Smithfield Ice Rink.
Briana Castro, Elisabeth Berard, Lauren Levesque, and Allison Shea supplied the scoring for the first-place Mounties, who are 12-1. Castro added a pair of assists, and Caitlin Shea, Alisha Berard, and Sleboda also set up goals.
The Bengals, who dipped to 5-5-1 and have lost three of their last four games, outshot the Mounties, 26-18, but were stymied by the standout play of goalie Sarah Erban, who turned away 25 shots. Bay View goalie Marissa Golda was only able to stop 14.
The Mounties are back in action on Sunday at the Cranston Vets rink with a 2:40 p.m. matchup against winless Smithfield.
