McGair: Friars' Coleman named to BE honor roll; Vote Kadeem Batts for Dunk of the Year

PROVIDENCE - Sophomore men's basketball player Gerard Coleman (Boston, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday, February 6 for his performance last week versus Rutgers and West Virginia. Coleman averaged 22.5 points and six rebounds over the two games.
On Wednesday, February 1, the Friars defeated Rutgers, 78-67, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. In the game, Coleman registered 15 points , including 7-11 from the free throw line, and grabbed seven rebounds in 28 minutes. In a 87-84 overtime loss to West Virginia at home, Coleman played in all 45 minutes of the game and scored a career-high 30 points as he was 12-16 (.750) from the free throw line and 9-15 (.600) from the field. He also grabbed five rebounds in the game.
Coleman is second on the team in rebounding as he is averaging 5.2 rebounds per game in 23 games this season. He also is third on the team in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game.
PROVIDENCE - On Monday, it was announced that Providence College men's basketball player, sophomore Kadeem Batts is nominated for play of the year. His one-handed dunk versus Louisville on January 10, at the Dukin' Donuts Center in Providence is on a short-list of plays that will compete for the GEICO Play of
the Year honor.
Each week for eight weeks, four top college basketball plays will be nominated as the GEICO Play of the Year. The eight finalists will compete in a week-long competition to determine the GEICO Play of the Year. The winner will be announced during the GEICO Best of College Basketball special that airs on CBS, March 25 at 1:00 p.m.
Batts' dunk is one of many impressive plays from the forward in the Friars' 90-59 victory over Louisville as he registered his first double-double of the season in the game with a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Other nominees from week six include dunks by Syracuse's C.J. Fair, Victor Rudd Jr. of South Florida and Oklahoma State's Markel Brown.
