PARSIPPANY, NJ- Robert E. Steere Jr., Age 79, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at St. Clares Hospital in Denville.
Robert was born and raised in Chepachet, Rhode Island. He lived in Connecticut before moving to Parsippany in 1966.
He served in the United States Air Force, active duty and reserves, from 1953 until 1966 having been honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.
Robert graduated from Classical High School in Providence, Rhode Island and then went onto to receive his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
He was a mechanical engineer for 45 years. He began his career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut. He then went on to work for Reaction Motors Division in Denville and most recently, he worked for Silicon Technology in Oakland for 30 years before retiring in 2002 as Senior Vice President.
Robert was also an inventor who received 18 Domestic Patents and 8 Foreign Patents.
Robert loved spending time with his family at his lake home in Chepachet, Rhode Island. He was also a private pilot who enjoyed aviation history.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (nee-Kenyon); his sons: Robert E. III and his wife, Carolann of Parsippany, Kenyon A. and his wife, Denise of Coopersburg, Pa. and Colby R. and his wife, Stephanie of Parsippany; his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Philippou and her husband, Nicolas of Nicosia, Cyprus; his sister, Martha Willard and her husband, Ralph of Newport, North Carolina; and his grandchildren: Dorothy, Shelby, Alex, Emma, Sydney, and Rebecca.
