PORT CHARLOTTE- Janet Aurella (Struzik) Haczynski, age 69, died January 9, 2012 in Port Charlotte, Florida after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Jan was born on July 18, 1942 and previously lived in Blackstone, MA and North Smithfield, RI.
She received her bachelor of science in nursing from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. and was a registered oncology nurse for many years at the Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, RI before retiring and moving to Florida. She enjoyed creating beautiful jewelry and decorating cakes in her spare time. Her dog Luca was her pride and joy and source of comfort, along with her family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Leon A. Haczynski; her daughter Kathleen (Joseph) Provost; her son, Michael (Kathryn)Struzik ; her step-daughter Lisa Haczynski and her fiancee Daniel McIntyre, her step-son James (Holly)Haczynski; and 8 grandchildren; Meaghan Provost, Keleigh Provost, Kaitlin Provost, Christopher Struzik, Matthew Struzik, Kelsey Haczynski, Jaime Lafazzia and James Haczynski . She was the daughter of Aurele Briere of Blackstone, Massachusetts and the late Claire Briere. She leaves a sister, Paulette Martin; 5 brothers; Thomas Briere, John Briere, David Briere, William Briere and Raymond Briere and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Joseph Struzik who died in 1986. She was also predeceased by 3 sisters; Lucille Turgeon, Lorraine Bertrand and Sandra Briere.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 18th at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Slatersville, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund at www,jimmyfund.org or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
