UXBRIDGE- Andrea Z. (Gateriewictz) O'Toole, 68, of 292 Blackstone St. died Mon. Feb. 13 at home surrounded by her family, after battling lung cancer for a second time.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years Lawrence M. O'Toole; children Austin O'Toole of Uxbridge, Andrea Auerbach of Wellesley, Lawrence O'Toole of Douglas, Peter O'Toole of Kennebunk, ME, and David O'Toole of Uxbridge; her mother Krystyna (Kaminski) Gateriewictz of Somerset; 9 grandchildren Kathleen, Shannon, Owen, Andrew, Michael, Georgia, Sadie, Charlie, and Hayden; siblings Stasia McGowan of Stoughton, Barbara Wierzbicki of Providence, Katherine Vivieros of Swansea, and Andrew Gateriewictz of Tampa; and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Fall River on March 4, 1943, she was daughter of the late Andrew Gateriewictz. Andrea lived in Uxbridge for 45 years.
A graduate of Somerset High School, Class of 1961, she earned her BA at Bradford Durfee Technical Institute and headed for New York City upon graduation, where she lived until marrying her husband. Once her children were in school, Andrea worked in the Records Dept. at Landmark Hospital in Woonsocket for 30 years, retiring in 2008.
Known for her easy laugh, Andrea immersed herself fully in enjoying all aspects of life; she infused her children with a love of sports and avidly supported their many athletic activities during their school age years. She loved photography and was a talented sketch artist. Andrea was a fixture at Horseneck Beach on summer weekends, loved her Shih Tzus Frank, Harry & Millie, and traveled extensively, eventually settling on her beloved Aruba for annual vacations. In her retirement, Andrea focused her attention on her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed having family over for barbecues at the pool.
In accordance with her wishes there are no services or calling hours planned. Donations may be made in Andrea's memory to Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center at Milford Regional
Medical Center, 20 Prospect St. Milford, MA 01757.
