BELLINGHAM- Mr. Norman L. McLinden Jr., 60, of Bellingham MA, died Friday (February 17, 2012) at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was a husband, father, grandfather, son, accomplished writer and teacher and the husband of Janet (Jackson) McLinden.
Mr. McLinden was born in Milford MA, the son of Norman L. McLinden Sr. and the late Irene (Blaco) McLinden. He attended Bellingham public schools and received his bachelors degree from Northeastern University. He also received his masters degree from Lesley University.
Mr. McLinden was employed as a young man at the Archer Rubber Company located in Milford. Following that he had been employed for twenty-five years at Waters Corporation. Most recently he was employed at Spectrum Health Services located in Worcester MA and was presently serving as a lead instructor at Phoenix University.
Mr. McLinden began his martial arts career at the age of nineteen. Since 1993 he has owned and operated Northeastern Tae Kwon Do, located in both Hopkinton MA and Bellingham MA, where he served as chief instructor. In 1998 he was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame and in 2005 he was named Master Instructor of the Year. In June of 2011 he achieved the rank of 8th Degree Black Belt and Grandmaster in Tae Kwon Do.
Mr. McLinden was an inspiration to his students and readers; a Boompa to his grandchildren; and his wifes best friend. His sense of humor and spirit will carry on in everyone who has met him. He will be greatly missed.
Along with his wife, Janet, of thirty years and his father, Norman McLinden Sr of Westport MA and formerly of Bellingham MA, he is survived by 1 Son: Keith McLinden and his wife Kelly of Fitchburg MA; 4 Grandchildren: Hana McLinden and Jameson McLinden of Fitchburg MA, Caleb Garneau and Travis Garneau of Nashua NH; also several step siblings including his half brother: Timothy McLinden of Westport MA.
His funeral will be held Thursday (February 23rd) at 8am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Liturgy of the Word at 9am in St. Blaise Church, 1158 South Main Street, Bellingham MA. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow and private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be Wednesday (February 22nd) from 5pm to 8pm.
