BURRILLVILLE- Shirley S. (Vose) Morris, 84, of Burrillville, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in Overlook Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Burrillville. She was the wife of the late Francis R. Morris, whom she married October 5, 1946.
Born in Cumberland, RI, she was the daughter of the late Ornando F. and Madeline (Slocum) Vose. Shirley lived in Cumberland Hill for 19 years, Berkeley for 39 years and in Burrillville for 26 years.
She was a 1944 graduate of Cumberland High School. Shirley held various jobs at the Manville Jenckes Company, Hasenfelds and J&P Coats, before becoming a groundskeeper at Union Cemetery for 8 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the New England Country Music Club in Uxbridge, Mass. Shirley loved knitting, dancing and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed playing the piano.
She is survived by three children, Beverly McDermott and her husband Ronald of Glocester, Mary Ellen Pontbriant and her husband Roger of Mapleville and Brian Morris and his wife Michelle of Coventry; five grandchildren, Melissa Kachapis of Bristol, Cara Pontbriant of Hull, MA, Jenny Hedquist of Harrisville and Kaylee and Braden Morris of Coventry; five great grandchildren, Nicholas, Riley and Mason Kachapis of Bristol and Michael and Makayla Hedqusit of Harrisville; two sisters, Dorothy Bascombe and Lois Angell, both of Cumberland.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11 AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Smithfield Road, North Smithfield, RI. Calling hours are Friday from 5PM until 8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association (Lou Gehrig's Disease), 2915 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02886.
