BLACKSTONE- Mary Eddy McCooey, 102, a resident of Blackstone, MA, and Matunuck, RI died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 5, 2012.
She was born in Blackstone, MA to Augustine H. Eddy and Eleanor Eddy. She graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent, Riverdale, NY and was a teacher of English and Latin at Blackstone High School for many years until she married.
Mary was a member of the Matunuck Point Beach Club Association, the Daughters of The American Revolution, the Stroke Club, and The Blackstone and Millville Historical Societies.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Judge Edwin F. McCooey, her brothers Dr. Augustine Eddy and Dr. Warren Eddy and her sisters Mrs. Eleanor Wright and Mrs. Genevieve Bense. She is survived by her children Edward A. McCooey of Blackstone, MA, and Joseph P. McCooey and his wife Carolyn of Matunuck, RI, three grandchildren, Edwin V. McCooey, Elizabeth M. McCooey, and Rosemary T. McCooey and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 9, 2012 at 10AM in St. Paul's Church, 48 St. Paul St., Blackstone, MA. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 No. Main St., Providence, RI 02904 or VNS of Greater RI, 6 Blackstone Valley Place, Suite 515, Lincoln, RI 02865.
