McGair: Bryant University completes next step toward NCAA Division I certification

March 7, 2012

Per the Bryant University athletic department:
SMITHFIELD -- Bryant University announced Wednesday it has successfully completed the self-study process for NCAA Division I Certification.
In a letter to University President Ron Machtley received March 2, Chair of the NCAA Division I Committee on Athletics Certification Joanne Glasser confirmed the completion of this process. Glasser also stated that the NCAA Committee on Athletics Certification has reviewed the entire self-study and has forwarded its recommendations to the Division I Membership Subcommittee for consideration of Bryant's election into active Division I membership.
"We passed an important milestone in our transition to Division I," said Director of Athletics Bill Smith. "The Peer Review Team, which visited Bryant in October, was very impressed by our broad-based participation in the self-study and noted that this was truly a team effort by everyone."
Bryant must now submit a final strategic plan to the NCAA Division I Membership Subcommittee later this spring. A final decision could be expected by mid to late July.
