March 8, 2012

WOONSOCKET — Police locked down the high school and voc-tech Thursday afternoon following a report of a student with a handgun.
According to Det. Capt. Edward J. Lee Jr., police received information that a 17-year-old old Woonsocket High School student may have brought a handgun onto school property. The high school and vocational school were immediately placed into lockdown.
The student was then identified and removed from the school, according to Lee. A search of his vehicle produced a loaded air soft pistol. The male juvenile was taken into custody and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, Lee said. The youth is being held at the Rhode Island Training School pending a hearing this morning.
