Woonsocket -Gerard N. Laplante 78, of Front St. died Saturday at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Jeannine (Cote) Laplante. Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Henry and Aldea (Tessier) Laplante. Mr. Laplante served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was the parts manager for Garelick Farms for over twenty years retiring in 1996. Gerry was a coach and president of the Woonsocket Pre-teen Football League for twenty five years, he also served as president of the Woonsocket Pony League for twenty years.
He is survived by a son Gerard Laplante of Somerset, MA, and three daughters Betty Ann Bell of GA, Jeanne Salois of Woonsocket and Geraldine Corbeil of North Smithfield, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Marcel Laplante.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. Woonsocket, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Agatha's Church, Joffre Ave. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday 6-8 PM. Please visit
