WOONSOCKET- Lionel H. Belisle, 85, died Monday at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of Alice L. (L'Heureux) Belisle. They were married on June 16, 1956.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Alberic and Amanda (Tardif) Belisle. He remained a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Belisle was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy, Class of 1945.
Following graduation Mr. Belisle served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Belisle was employed by the federal government as a defense contract administrator working in Boston for over 30 years.
Lionel was a talented woodworking craftsman and made many pieces of furniture and bird figures. He also was an avid gardener.
Lionel enjoyed times spent with his family at their home at Spring Lake and being at the ocean.
Lionel will be remembered as being a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by three sons, Joel and Karl Belisle, both of Woonsocket, Jon Belisle, and his wife Melanie, of North Smithfield, two daughters, Ann Belisle of FL, and Laury Cornell, and her husband Gregg, of Pascoag. Four grandchildren, Clarissa Russell, Justine Belisle, Kaidy and Benjamin Cornell. He was the brother of Flore Laferriere of North Kingstown, Theresa Gauvin and Candide Belisle, both of Woonsocket, Simone Pointon of VA, and the late Robert, Camille, Richard, Rhea, Albanie, Euclid Belisle and Laury Berard. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Saturday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-7 pm.
