GILBERT, Ariz. Dolores (Delly) H. Matteson, 83, died April 7, 2012, surrounded by family, at Hospice of the Valleys Lund Home in Gilbert, Ariz.
She was born May 24, 1928, in Woonsocket, R.I., the daughter of Arthur and Alida (Cadorette) Marchand.
She graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1945, and later graduated from Rhode Island College of Education with a teaching degree in 1949.
She taught elementary school in Rhode Island and Vermont for many years.
On Nov. 11, 1950, she married Herbert G. Matteson. They were married 53 years. Mr. Matteson died Oct. 23, 2003.
Following her husbands death, she moved from Rutland, Vt., to South Burlington, Vt., to be closer to her daughter. She was visiting family in Arizona at the time of her death.
She enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles and crochet when her health allowed.
She was a past member of Christ the King Church in Rutland, and sang in their choir for 20 years.
While living in Pittsford, Vt., she was a member of the Womens Sodality at St. Alphonsus Parish. In South Burlington, she belonged to St. John Vianney Parish and was a member of the Pines Senior Living Community.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy A. Taylor of Gilbert, Ariz., and Elizabeth Milizia of South Burlington, Vt.; two sons, William T. Matteson of Rutland, Vt., and Robert F. Matteson of Oakland Park, Fla.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Theresa Sullivan of Lincoln, R.I.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Arthur (Sonny) Marchand Jr.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Rutland on April 21, 2012, with Msgr. Reid Mayo officiating. A graveside service will be April 22, 2012, in Blackstone Cemetery at 1 p.m. in Blackstone, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
