DOUGLAS/UXBRIDGE- Michael E. Nelson, 68 longtime Douglas and Uxbridge resident died unexpectedly at home on Wed. April 18. His wife Jean M. (Sampson) Nelson died in 1999.
He is survived by two daughters Kristine A. and her husband Matthew Murello of Long Valley NJ, and Amy E. and her husband Christopher Nadeau of Douglas; 5 grandchildren, Christian, Jess, Nicholas, Olivia, Kyla; his brother Bruce R. and his wife Nancy Nelson of Chepachet, RI; his fianc Carol A. Moss of Cumberland, RI; several nephews, nieces, and good friends; and his rescue Labrador retriever Logan, AKA Buddy.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on July 26, 1943 he was the son of Earl and Nota (Schab) Nelson and lived the pat 12 years in Douglas, previously living in Uxbridge.
Mike worked as a deli attendant at Hannaford's for the past 2 years, previously he worked for Aubuchon's Hardware in Whitinsville, Millbury Ford Motors, Luster-On Corp. in Springfield, and Dennison Mfg. in Framingham. He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School, RI College where he majored in biology, and later earned his MBA at Bryant College. A staunch republican, he enjoyed town politics and was a member of the Douglas Zoning Board of Appeals. He was a member and past Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge in Uxbridge. He had a passion for and keen knowledge of fishing which he learned over the years. He had a great sense of humor and loved working around his home. He had a naturally inquisitive nature and loved to learn.
His memorial funeral service will be held Mon. April 23 at 11 a.m. in Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd. Uxbridge,MA. A calling hour in the funeral home is Mon. April 23 from 10-11a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michaels name may be made to the Republican National Committee, 310 First St., SE Washington, DC 20003.
