BELLINGHAM- Emerson C. "Cappy" Eldredge, 93, of Bellingham, MA passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Milford Care & Rehabilitation with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia M. (MacDougall) Eldredge.
Born in Milford, MA on September 3, 1918, he was the son of the late Oscar and Jennie (Gerry) Eldredge. He was the loving father of Richard A. Eldredge and his wife, Mariette, Donald L. Eldredge, Barbara J. Eltzroth and her husband, William all of Bellingham, MA. He leaves his cherished grandchildren, Tracy Eltzroth, Mitzi Eltzroth and her partner, Erin Bentz, Nancy Boucher and her husband, Richard, Lisa Campopiano, Michelle Dearden and her husband, Shawn, Mandy Eldredge and the late Jason Eldredge and great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Ryan Boucher, Riley and Ryan Dearden. He was the brother of the late Arthur Eldredge and the late Gladys Fitzgerald. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A resident of Bellingham since 1941 formerly of Milford, MA, he worked as a painter and licensed rigger for the Draper Corporation for 40 years until retiring in 1983. He was a WWII United States Army Veteran and was a P.O.W. for 9 months in Germany; a member of the D.A.V. and VFW Post 7272 of Bellingham. Mr. Eldredge was a Lieutenant of the Bellingham Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a member and Trustee of the First Baptist Church of Bellingham. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends at the Bellingham Senior Center, and he was often seen outside chopping wood in his yard. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed.
Funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 25th at 11:00AM in CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with visiting time from 10 to11AM prior to Funeral Service with Pastor Baron K. Rodrigues officiating. Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery, Mechanic St. (Rte 140), Bellingham. Visiting hours are on Tuesday, April 24th from 4 to 7PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations to the Bellingham Fire Department, 28 Blackstone St., Bellingham, MA 02019, or Friends of the Library, 100 Blackstone St., Bellingham, MA 02019, or Bellingham Senior Center, 40 Blackstone St., Bellingham, MA 02019 would be appreciated
