BELLINGHAM- Marjorie E. (Alward) Martel 87, of MA passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 5th, 2012 with her loved ones by her side. She was the wife of the late Robert F. Martel Sr.
Born in Framingham MA on May 17th, 1924, She was the daughter of the late John and Astrid (Saunder) Alward.
She was the loving mother of Earl Murray of Blackstone MA, Charles Murray and his wife, Karen of North Smithfield, RI, Robin Martel of Woonsocket, RI, Kathleen Mercure and her late husband David of Woonsocket, RI, the late Ingrid Martel, Verna Potter and her husband Jay of Woonsocket, RI, the late Robert "Fred" Martel Jr., and Richard Martel and wife Melissa of Georgia. She leaves her 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was the sister of Paul Alward and Alfred Alward of Bellingham, MA, Geraldine Babbitt of Brooklyn, CT, and the late Helen Coppinger, Astrid Wilkinson, Charles Alward and Richard Alward.
She was a resident of Bellingham for over 50 years, formerly of the Framingham area. She worked for the Kendall Company of Walpole, MA for 17 years until retiring in 1988.
She enjoyed camping along side the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne and the scenic outdoors. She loved the beauty and smell of flowers, country music and jelly donuts. In her spare time she enjoyed yard
work, decorating and black coffee on the back porch. She was a loving and dedicated mother, who will be greatly missed and held close in our hearts forever.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 10th, at 10:00AM at the Blackstone Valley Baptist Church, 40 Pine Swamp Road, Cumberland, RI. Interment will follow at the South Cemetery, Wayland, MA. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, May 9th, from 5 to 8PM at CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St, (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
